Beacon Councils

What are Beacon Councils?

The aim of the Beacon Council scheme is to identify centres of excellence in local government from which other local, police, fire and national park authorities can learn. Each year local authorities (LAs) around the country are awarded Beacon Council status on a variety of themes. A Beacon Council can apply for funding through the Capacity Building Fund to help other LAs improve their performance on the particular Beacon theme.
