A number of recent policy developments around children and young people have significantly shaped the Government Office role in this important area of work.

GOYH works with a range of Government Departments, regional organisations and local communities, to support the changes outlined in ‘Every Child Matters’ and the Children Act. We focus on improving access to information, and promoting, where possible, multi-agency working for children’s services on the ground.
The duty to establish Children’s Trust arrangements to improve outcomes for children and young people is being taken forward strongly in Yorkshire &The Humber. Most Local Authorities have already established Children’s Trusts, building on early learning from the 6 Pathfinder areas in the region that were funded for this purpose to March 2006.
All Local Authorities in Yorkshire & The Humber have completed their statutory Children & Young People’s Plan, which details how they intend integrating services taking account of the views of children, young people and parents.
Similarly, all Yorkshire & The Humber authorities have now appointed a Director for Children’s Services (DCS) to lead on the delivery of education, social services and delegated health services for children.
