Regional Charter

The first version of the Regional Charter Working towards a Pledge for Children in Care and Care Leavers was launched at an event in Leeds on 17 March 2008. The Charter seeks to assist local authorities in fulfilling the requirements of 'Care Matters' which states that all Local Authorities should have a Pledge for children in their care by 2008.

Importantly it places the views and contributions of children at its heart. The event disseminated some of the regional and national messages gathered from children and young people in various consultations, that were used in compiling the Regional Charter document which Local Authorities might want to draw on to develop their own local pledges and address the gaps this work has highlighted.

Delegates included young people from across the Region including the Y&H Regional Participation group; as well as practitioners and strategists from health, education and social care including some elected members. A follow up event, which will also be the regional launch of Care Matters: ‘Time to Deliver for children in care’, is planned for 16 July 2008 at The Met Hotel, Leeds.
