Regional Minister Rosie Winterton to address Yorkshire & The Humber Business Support Partnership

Published: Wed, 09 Apr 2008 13:36:02

Rosie Winterton, Regional Minister for Yorkshire & The Humber, met with members of the newly formed Regional Business Support Partnership today to explore how the Business Support Simplification Programme (BSSP) can contribute to the upskilling the region's workforce.

Ms Winterton is passionate about the skills agenda and is seeking views on how, for example, the skills brokerage aspect of the BSSP can be best used to effectively engage and encourage employers to invest in their workforce.

Major changes to the delivery of skills for young people and adults are under consideration. This will mean local authorities taking responsibility for the funding and commissioning of training provision, including new Diplomas and Apprenticeships to meet the demands of young people and employers. A new Skills Funding Agency will ensure that government funding responds to employers and adults' skills needs and supports excellence in the Further Education (FE) sector
