Crime falls in Yorkshire and The Humber

Published: Thu, 17 Jul 2008 10:24:02

Crime recorded by the police has fallen by 10 per cent in Yorkshire and the Humber over the last year, new figures published today show.

The annual publication 'Crime in England and Wales 2007/08' includes results from the British Crime Survey and crimes recorded by the police for the 12 months up to March 2008.

Nationally, both the BCS and police recorded crime show crime has fallen along with the risk of being a victim of crime. The BCS shows crime has fallen by ten per cent (with a 12 per cent fall in violent crime) and police recorded crime shows a nine per cent fall compared to 2006/07.

The BCS shows the risk of becoming a victim of crime has fallen from 24 to 22 per cent in the past year. Both overall crime and the risk of victimisation are now at their lowest levels since the first BCS results in 1981.

Police recorded crime figures for the region show that between 2006/07 and 2007/08:
* Violent crime has reduced by 12%
* Burglary has reduced by 7%
* Offences against vehicles have reduced by 18% and
* Robbery has reduced by 11%
