Government brings real help for Yorkshire and the Humber charities

Published: Thu, 23 Apr 2009 15:48:39

Charities and voluntary groups from across Yorkshire and the Humber came together in Bradford this week to discuss what more they can do to help local communities through the economic downturn.

The event was hosted by the Cabinet Office, which is providing £42.5 m to help small and medium sized charities delivering support to people affected by the recession, plus a further £16m new money announced only this week in the budget.

Among the charities attending was Home Start (Hull), a charity that supports families with young children. Home Start (Hull) has seen a three-fold increase in the number of people signing up to their volunteer preparation sessions since the beginning of the year.
