Minister congratulates Yorkshire firm for helping to raise the roof on the Olympic Stadium and urges other businesses to follow suit.

The construction of the 2012 Olympic Stadium has reached another milestone with the installation of a cable net roof made by a Yorkshire firm.

The roof is made of over 12,000 meters of cables supplied by Bridon International Limited and manufactured at its headquarters in Doncaster.

On Tuesday, January 5, 2010 Rosie Winterton, the Minister for Yorkshire and The Humber and also Doncaster Central MP, visited the Olympic Stadium to see the roof at first hand.

Rosie Winterton, Regional Minister, said:  “It is a magnificent achievement and I congratulate all those at Bridon International who’ve worked on this project.

“The London 2012 Games provide an unprecedented opportunity for our region’s businesses in every sector to gain new contracts and put their services and products onto a global stage.”

Twenty six companies or organisations from Yorkshire and Humberside have already won contracts from the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), and many more have won work supplying the ODA’s contractors through the supply chain.

The ODA confirmed that with the cable net roof now in place, the Stadium is on target for completion by the summer of 2011.
