Regional Ministers were introduced in June 2007 as part of the Governance
of Britain reforms, and are a key part of the Government's commitment to
re-invigorating democracy. Regional Ministers exist to make sure that
government policy takes accounts of each region’s differing needs and
concerns.
My over-riding goal as Minister for Yorkshire and the Humber is
to support the growth of the regional economy by promoting Yorkshire
and the Humber as a great place to live, to visit and to do
business.
My current priority is to minimise the negative impacts of the global
economic downturn. I know that the recession has hit us all, but the
Government is committed to doing all it can to help businesses and
individuals through the downturn and to put ourselves in the strongest
possible position for the future.
Here in Yorkshire and the Humber I am working closely with partners and
colleagues, especially through the Economic Delivery Group, to focus
our responses to our region’s economic, employment, financial and
housing needs. You can find out more information by following the links on
this page.
The Yorkshire and the Humber region is a diverse and dynamic place with:
- first class universities
- innovative businesses
- vibrant cities
- unique rural communities
- first class sporting venues
- welcoming and friendly people
- and some of the most breathtaking and beautiful scenery; heritage and
architecture in the UK.
I believe that it is the combination of these qualities, the sum of our
parts, which makes our region great.
I hope you find these pages interesting and helpful and they inform you
about the work I have been doing in and for the Yorkshire and The Humber
region.
